I did a brief page of simple cat practice sketches, one of which was of a rotund, blissfully smiling cat. Upon me showing them, someone called the blissing kitty a "buddha cat".
Well, my mom happens to own this big ceramic blue buddha, a plump smiling guy that my grandma bought in Japan many years ago. While taking my shoes off, I looked at the buddha like I had many times due to its particular place in the house, and it clicked.
"Oh my god, that cat DOES look like the buddha!"
Thus spawning this.

Oh my, I love it! I wish I looked like that. I would even like to be rotund if I could bliss at such a fine level, and be cat. The color style you tried is perfect, very buoyant [sic] and light, matching the buddha theme. It would make a very good illustration/story.
